ThirdAge CEO and Other Notable Experts to Contribute to Weekly Weblog for 40+ Set About Relationships, Resources, and Renewal
July 30, 2005 (San Francisco)
ThirdAge (www.thirdage.com) today announced the launch of the "ThirdAge Blog" (http://blog.thirdage.com), the first online journal offering dynamic, interactive content of interest to Baby Boomers and mid-lifers - women and men in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond. With close to one million members, ThirdAge.com provides unique resources, relevant content, and interactive guides that assist their audience in enriching their lives and managing life transitions. Inspired by the French term "Troisiéme," ThirdAge refers to a time of life that follows young adulthood yet precedes retiring "seniorhood" - a time often characterized by vital living, newfound freedom, personal growth, and enrichment.
The ThirdAge Blog will further stir the pot and debunk the many myths about getting older.
"Our intent is that our Blog will give ThirdAgers immediate access to important information and new ideas, while at the same time giving them a platform to voice opinions, share experiences, and dispense advice," said Sharon Whiteley, CEO of ThirdAge. "Some of our bloggers already provide expert advice to the ThirdAge community, and we believe the interactive nature of this communication will enable contributors and their readers to form a particularly powerful and authentic bond."
Whiteley, age 56 and herself a ThirdAger, will be posting regularly on the ThirdAge Blog.
"As bloggers, I expect many of us will be focusing on the issues, interests and needs
that matter to us most at this time in life: relationships in transition, romance, health, wellness, money, work - as well as personal growth. We are active, youthful, energetic, and more than ready to be heard."
Jory Des Jardins, co-founder of the BlogHer conference, is editor of the ThirdAge Blog. Des Jardins writes on women's business issues, entrepreneurship and relationships for major publications and for her blog, Pause. She is also a contributor to the More Space project, a longer-form collection featuring ten emerging business writers.
Des Jardins and Whiteley worked together to identify and invite the outstanding opinion leaders who will be writing for the ThirdAge Blog. The debuting roster includes:
- Dating expert Tom Blake
- Relationship coach Rinatta Paries
- Elder Care expert Jaqueline Marcell
- Men's psychology expert Jed Diamond
- Nutritionist Dr. Susan Mitchell
- Los Angeles-based actress Colleen Wainwright
- Management and leadership expert Lisa Haneberg
- Lawyer, entrepreneur and author Jill Fallon
- Small business and marketing expert Yvonne Divita
- Documentarian and journalist Ronni Bennett
"I am delighted to be the editor of the ThirdAge Blog, and convinced we've assembled an amazing group of bloggers," said Des Jardins. "They are colorful, informative, and have a very specific point of view about topics that matter most to people in this life stage."
Des Jardins continued, "We are accommodating readers who are using such tools as RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeders. Quite simply, blogs are how we're communicating now. We think the ThirdAge Blog will play an increasingly prominent role in the lives of the 40+ set moving forward."
