Yahoo to Power ThirdAge Dating

Yahoo Inc.'s Yahoo Personals will power the dating site of ThirdAge Inc., an online media company that focuses on Baby Boomers, the companies said Wednesday. The new site, ThirdAge Personals, will replace and expand on ThirdAge's existing Internet personals, ThirdAge Connections. "Working together we can now put in place the technology and infrastructure to support continued growth, making ThirdAge's offerings visible and available to a growing number of mid-life daters," said Sharon Whiteley, chief executive of San Francisco-based ThirdAge. The site will be geared to the particular problems mid-life daters face. For example, in the children/stepchildren category, users describe their situation with choices ranging from "yes, and they still live at home" to "ask me about my grandchildren." Yahoo, of Sunnyvale, Calif., developed the site and will manage all technology and back-end operations. Yahoo also powers the sites of iVillage.com, About.com and Classmates.com; it launched a co-branded site with Spanish-language channel Telemundo in October.
