Alternative Health Use Up

About 70 percent of Americans use alternative health care, says a Web site that has tapped into what it calls a $39.7 billion alternative medicine market. Wholehealthmd.com focuses on "integrative medicine," blending conventional and alternative treatments.

Wholehealthmd.com, a joint venture, comprises Whole Foods Market Inc., a Fortune 1000 company that sells natural foods and personal care products; American WholeHealth, which provides "integrative" care through 14 centers nationwide; and Rebus Inc., a consumer health publisher.

The site features a Healing Center, with detailed information on using herbs, supplements and other self-care techniques. Each treatment has been reviewed and tested by American WholeHealth physicians, the site says.

Also at the site, you'll find the Healing Kitchen, with recipes including ingredients to heal what ails you. Here, too, you can shop online for herbs, supplements, books and videos. Click on the Ask Our Experts section or the reference library for more information on supplements, foods, drugs and treatments from acupuncture to yoga.
