Migraine triggers?
Migraine triggers?
Hi. I was also diagnosed of having migraine headache. It's
really painful and triggers pretty much when I least expect it to be. My doctor
already explained the triggers (PMS, caffeine, etc) and I feel I'm missing one.
TO cope up with the situation, I was prescribed to take fioricet. Works for me,
by the way. Am still working on what exactly triggers it and maybe it's with my
sleeping habits. I want to AVOID it if possible. Any other triggers that you
may share that are unusual?
Thanks.
Deb
migraine
I used to get migraines from caffeine withdrawal, when I visited my in laws they had decaffeinated coffee. By the time my visit was ending I usually had a withdrawal headache.
I have a friend who is addicted to fioricet be careful.
Hi Deb, I have had migraines
Hi Deb,
I have had migraines at only one period of my life.
They were CAUSED by the birth control pill. My doctor SWORE it was not the pill, but if you read the fine print on the pill box - it says "Do NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING HEADACHES"
So, I threw the pills away and NEVER had another migraine - that's been over 40 years ago.
Migraine Triggers?
My brother gets migraines and one of his triggers are red pistachio nuts!
migrain trigger
well, this one isn't unusual but you've missed it on your list. MSG -- mono sodium glutamate. It is a flavor enhancer that is added to many, many foods. Read your labels. If it is 'in there'' then don't eat that food, not at all. You'll find it in heavy concentrations in flavored crackers, in beef jerkey, in canned soups, in soup powders, in boullion cubes, etc. It is one o fthe MAIN known triggers that can be avoided. Best of Luck! Oh, and the fioricet can be adicting so watch for that.
Good catch, java. This is
Good catch, java. This is also my trigger so I avoid cup noodles, a lot of chips, etc. I am also a fioricet user and as a lot of you are right, it should only be taken during severe migraine attacks. It may be habit forming so there you go. Take care, all.
From my experience, I
From my experience, I find changes in weather and bright sunlight may bring on a migraine, as well as eating fatty/fried foods which I avoid for the most part. I also stay away from alcohol, especially red wine. Another important rule for me is to drink plenty of water through ut the day if I eat starchy foods and/or have salty foods. This boils down to eating fairly simple foods including mostly fresh fruits and veggies and still living through a major migraine every 4 - 5 weeks or so.
I read that magnesium
I read that magnesium deficiency can cause migraines. You might want to take a magnesium supplement and see if it keeps them at bay.
Hey Cas, You are also
Hey Cas, You are also right on the magnesium connection. About 5 years ago, I was having migraines multiple times per week as well as severe osteo-arthritis flare ups. My medical professional recommended a supplement of calcium & magnesium, on top of my regular daily multi-vitamin. Within two weeks, I had no arthritis problems and basically NO more migraines. I have noticed that when I slack off on the cal-mag supplements for a week or more, then my migraines come back. I've been having migraines again now all week .. and guess what ? Yup, I am out of my cal-mag supplements !! I usually have to take a Migraine Relieving medicine, such as Zomig, when it gets this bad. They didnt' work this time until day 3. UGGGHHH Maybe I need to go back to get some Fioricet?? I know that works but I was very nearly addicted to that 5 years ago. I have used other Migraine Relieving meds but most just made me nauseous or made me vomit. I don't beleive there is any thing WORSE than having to throw up in the middle of a cluster migraine !! I'd rather just up and die than do that again, ever. OMG it was horrible. Best of luck to all us migraine sufferers!! :-)
