Yoga for Repetitive Injuries

If the doc's diagnosis is carpal tunnel, check out Rx: Yoga! It's a video series that teaches yoga exercises for repetitive strain injuries from Dr. Gail Dubinsky. Her four-volume series sells online for $49.95.

Dubinsky is a physician and a professional yoga instructor. Since 1988, the Sebastopol, Calif., doctor has specialized in soft tissue neuro-orthopedic injuries and says she has always taught yoga exercises to her patients during office visits.

The videos teach safe stretching and strengthening with postures modified for those who cannot bear weight on their hands and wrists and have limited range of shoulder motion. Each 20-minute video is a complete exercise sequence, ending with a relaxation exercise.

You don't need previous yoga experience to follow along. The tapes are appropriate for carpal, cubital and radial tunnel syndromes -- tendinitis of the hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders -- neck, shoulder and upper back strains -- and mild to moderate thoracic outlet syndrome.
