This is a very personal decision that will vary with individual circumstances/situations. However, if a care giver feels that he or she is no longer able to adequately fulfill the needs of the patient, such as keeping him/her safe, it might be time to consider an assisted living facility.

Basically, when it becomes clear that it is no longer safe for the person to be in an unsupervised environment, an assisted living facility should be considered. It is difficult to provide constant supervision at home for an aging adult. Another option can be a home nurse/attendant.
