Here’s an easy way to lessen the onset of Alzheimer’s, or even prevent it altogether: drink some coffee.
A study conducted at the University of South Florida School of Pharmacy found that people with the highest levels of caffeine in their blood avoided Alzheimer’s, at least for the time the researchers followed them: two to four years. The subjects in the study were people over 65 in the Miami/Tampa area.
Dr. Chuanhai Cao, one of the researchers, said that about three cups of coffee each day had been shown to be beneficial. He said that the results were consistent with earlier studies of Alzheimer’s mice.
The study had some other good news for coffee drinkers: it found that caffeine appeared to reduce the risk of Parkinson’s disease, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and cancer.
