One in two Americans will get some form of Osteoarthritis (OA) in their lifetime, and 27 million adults currently have it. If you’re one of them, you know the way common activities can become a real chore. Here are five simple ways to make life easier:
Use An Electric Knife. Carving and cutting is tough if you have arthritis in the hands, fingers, or wrist. Invest in a cordless electric knife. But before buying it, make sure it’s light enough so you can hold it easily.
Try A Carpenter’s Apron. It may not be the most stylish item in your wardrobe, but a carpenter’s apron has plenty of pockets. So whether you’re in your kitchen or garden, or walking up or down the stairs, you can carry lots of items and eliminate extra trips.
Light Up With Table Lamps. If it’s difficult to replace a ceiling light and you need someone else to help you do it, place table lamps throughout your home. That way if the ceiling light burns out, you won’t be walking around in the dark.
Relieve Your Foot Pain. It’s common for folks with OA to have feet that hurt or swell. Make them feel better simply by filling a can or bottle with water and freezing it. Then put your foot on top and roll it forward and backwards along your instep. Just doing this for a few minutes can offer tremendous relief!
Use A Long-Handled Dust Pan With An Expanding-Handle Broom. You can sweep and dust easily without the need to bend over or reach up.
