How to Date With Courage

In the marketplace of dating, some singles feel they have nothing to offer and become suddenly shy. To cure this shyness and begin dating with courage, they key is to understand what the opposite sex wants.

I recently interviewed a number of singles to find out what they believe makes a great relationship. Their answers may surprise you!

  • Men and women want communication. Men want honest, timely, loving communication. They want a woman who confidently asks for her wants and needs to be met. They want a woman who tells it like it is, yet communicates kindly, without being critical.

    Women want men to communicate clearly, openly, and to listen and respond. Specifically, women want communication about feelings, needs, wants, hopes, problems, and all other things that make a relationship work.

  • Men and women want responsible partners. Men want self-sufficiency, security, and confidence in their partner. They want a woman to choose them rather than need them. They want their partner to have a separate identity, to support their goals without being threatened. Men want a woman who's active and independent, with her own friends and interests.

    Women want a partner who is responsible financially and professionally. They want a man who knows where his career is going, who's working toward his goals. They want a man who uses money wisely, and who can be both frugal and generous.

  • Men and women want aware partners. Men want no manipulation in their relationships. They don't want to read their partners' minds or try to interpret signals. They don't want to be forced to move too fast in a relationship. They don't want to be solely blamed for things gone wrong.

    Women want introspective and aware partners; men who know their minds and hearts. They want men who understand what motivates their own actions, and what triggers their emotions.

  • Men and women want emotional maturity. Men want growth and personal responsibility from their partner. Men want a partner who can laugh at herself, and who can bring courage and strength to the relationship. They want an emotionally stable woman who recognizes and owns her part in relationship dynamics.

    Women want a man who cares deeply about her needs and wants without losing himself in the process. They want a man who recognizes and acknowledges what she wants, one who can give without sacrificing himself.

  • Men and women want fidelity and commitment. Fidelity is an absolute must for men. They want a woman who can wholeheartedly commit to the relationship. They define commitment as fidelity plus the willingness to work on the relationship even when the going gets tough.

    Women also want a partner who will commit to the relationship for the long haul. They want a man who values fidelity as a cornerstone of building a relationship.

  • Men and women want a vital, alive partnership. Men want women to have knowledge of men and how they need to be treated. Men want a woman who praises and acknowledges what they do right, as well as noticing what is done wrong.

    Women want a partner who is fun and passionate about life. They want a man of creative, intellectual, and playful substance.

    • Interestingly, what men and women want from each other is pretty similar. Men and women are just people who want to be loved and wanted, and you have what the opposite sex wants and finds desirable. This knowledge should give you the courage you need to go out into the dating world!
