Passion: The Key to a Longer and Healthier Life

Living life just going through the motions? If so, you may be cutting your life short, as it's been medically proven that people with passion and dreams actually live longer, healthier lives.

While doing research for one of my books, I had the privilege of interviewing one of the world's leading heart surgeons. During that meeting, I was told about apoptosis, which is when your brain believes that you have outgrown your usefulness and sends a message to your body that it is no longer needed. At that point, you begin to mentally or physically self-destruct.

Apoptosis often occurs when people retire, when they experience an empty nest, or when they stop dreaming. If you believe that you are too old to dream or that you have achieved all you want, you may be causing yourself to age prematurely.

So, what's the cure, the antidote for this syndrome? Passion and dreams!

When we are in touch with our passion, we have more energy, enthusiasm and vitality. We look better, feel better and live longer. Passion and purpose -- having meaning in your life -- go hand in hand. When we are doing what makes us happy, it often gets done faster and with greater ease. Besides, when we are doing what we love, who cares how long it takes?

Our dreams are simply what we want, and they include those things that make us happy. Whether it's having more quality time with family and friends, a healthier body, or the energy to dance at our children's (or grandchildren's) weddings, our dreams are important for our happiness, well-being and fulfillment.

One way to re-ignite your passion is to create a new dream or move forward on one that is important to you. How about taking a trip to a place where you have often dreamed of visiting, where you can learn how to create new dreams or how to move forward on a dream that you already have?
