Tantric Sex Position: The Woman Superior

In the Tantric pantheon of characters, the primary god is Shiva, and the primary goddess is Shakti. They stand as principles rather than religious icons, representing the female and male, or Yin and Yang. Their dance of partnership keeps the universe in balance, and they bring the same metaphor to modern couples.

In our sexual lives, the Shakti energy of passion and creativity comes forth in positions that put the woman on top and in control of the action. These "woman superior" positions are excellent for G-spot stimulation and enable a more powerful sexual response from many women, who can subtly move their bodies to angle the pelvis and yoni (Sanskrit for "vagina") for maximum stimulation.

In the basic position, the man lays on his back with the woman on top facing and straddling him. She can rotate her hips freely, moving up and down and back and forth. A description in the Kama Sutra likens this to a fluttering and soaring butterfly, dipping and swooping, sometimes lightly, sometimes more gregariously.

The woman can also place both feet or both knees on the bed, or hold one knee up and place the other down on the bed. This latter position allows greater movement in the hips and control of the G-spot region and is easier on the hips and legs because you can relieve some of the pressure of being in the same position too long.

Some women like to turn around and face their partner's feet while on top. This makes it difficult to gaze into each other's eyes, however, which you may want to do if you're really connected. One will sometimes see an old Oriental love painting where the couple looks into a mirror or reflective object to see each other's faces. Try this -- it's very intimate and erotic!

Also try adding a thrusting pattern when you've gotten comfortable with some of these positions -- perhaps six shallow, two deep, then repeat. Experiment and see what works for you. Be bold! Breathe deeply! Flutter and soar like the butterfly!
