We all love Christine Hendricks because she reminds us of how we used to look.

Some people are complaining about Christina Hendricks' bountiful curves, claiming they are just too much of a good thing. The gorgeous redheaded glamour girl of Mad Men, says she is a size 12 and she looks it. In fact, sometimes she looks like she's a size 14. On the show she plays the full-bodied Joan, a very efficient and very sexy office manager who is always dressed in skin-tight 60s- style secretary sheaths or in low-cut cocktail dresses.Christine wears the same styles offscreen. Most think she looks fabulous. Some think she looks, dare we say, kind of plump.

In truth, though not many women were as picture-pretty as Hendricks, her style and size were very typical for the early 60s. It was the time of Marilyn Monroe, after all, where women were expected to have curves not muscles, and gym was not a place to go but the name of a fellow who asked you out.

Now, there is some debate that Monroe herself, who supposedly wore a size 12 or 14, was really a lot slimmer than people think. Those who buy vintage clothes claim that a size 12 then was a lot smaller than todays 12. I am not so sure. Monroe definitely looked soft and sometimes even fleshy--no toned upper arms for her--- and nobody, from the President down, seemed to mind one bit.

So maybe thats the point. With todays obsession to be thin, thinner, or thinnest, didnt women really look better, both more comforting and sexier, when they were a lot curvier? And, by that I mean naturally curvy with ample dcolletage and hips that matched. Oh, sure, they wore girdles and long-line bras and merry widow corsets to keep those curves in line, but nobody was ever striving to be ultra-thin. And I bet if one compared Marilyn, Sophia Loren, Jane Mansfield or the other full-bodied glamour girls of the 60s, even with their rounded stomachs and bottoms, to todays sometimes anorexic sex symbols, most guys would prefer Marilyn and friends.Maybe thats why Hendricks is so appealing. People love to watch her in her size 12 glory and she even reminds some of us of the way we once dressed and looked. We are glad she admits to indulging herself over the holidays. And if we no longer look like her, at least, we can eat like her.
