Q:

Do you have any diet recommendations for people with auto-immune disorders?

A:

The buzzwords in the world of diet and nutrition right now are ‘anti-inflammation’. Inflammation can be good when you stump your toe or cut yourself. Your immune system kicks in sending white blood cells along with other substances to jump start the healing process. Inflammation is not so good when it becomes chronic inflammation in your body that you are probably not even aware of. This invisible type of inflammation potentially affects the risk of many common diseases in this country from heart disease and auto-immune illness like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis to some cancers, diabetes, and even stroke. Here are three steps you can take to potentially lower the level of inflammation in your body: Eat less trans fat and saturated fat. Eat less sugar, corn syrup and other simple carbs. Increase the number of fruits and vegetables that you eat each day.
