Six Steps to Perfect Lashes

Step One
Curl your lashes -- this acts as an instant eye lift.

If you have short lashes, curling will make them look longer.

First, invest in a good pair of eyelash curlers. The rubber curl pad should be rounded, not straight; this will give your lashes a natural curl rather than a harsh angle ....

Step Two
Begin as close to the root of the lash as possible. Press the curlers firmly together for 10 to 15 seconds. Release and repeat two or three times, moving the curlers a few millimeters up the lashes each time. Stop just over halfway up for the most natural-looking curl.

Step Three
When applying eyeshadow, powder often falls on the lashes.

Distribute it through them with an eyeshadow brush. The powder absorbs moisture and will allow mascara to adhere better.

Step Four
Wipe off any excess mascarafrom the wand with a tissue to avoid clumping. Begin applying mascaraat the inner corner of one eye with the wand near the root of thelashes.

Work outward in a zigzag motion, coating lashes from root to tip.

Step Five
Position the wand on top of the lashes at theroot. Apply a coat using a rolling motion to curl the lashes upwards. If you still get clogging, run an eyelash comb through the undersidefrom the roots.

Step Six
For the lower lashes, again wipe off any excessmascara from the wand. Hold the wand vertically and apply the mascarawith the tip of the brush to separate the lashes.

My Secrets

  • Never pump the wand in the tube. This draws in air and dries out the mascara.

  • Replace your mascara every six months or so to avoid the buildup of bacteria.

  • For fair skin and/or blonde hair, try soft browns. For red hair and green or hazel eyes, try auburn or burgundy.
