Back Pain Doesn't Need to Be a Spine Chiller
Causes
Back pain can strike anyone at any time. It can be caused by a combination of factors, from genetics to lack of physical activity and bad posture or a deeper problem.
Mechanical pain, which accounts for 80 percent of all back pain, occurs because you make the wrong move at the wrong time. It often self-regulates without treatment and just needs some time.
Although modern technology has made our lives easier in many ways it has also become, quite literally, a pain in the neck.
While our ancestors were active most of the day now we're more likely to hop in a car than walk to the shops, we sit for hours in front of a desk at work then come home and sit for hours in front of the TV.
Since our back has been designed to cope with movement, sitting still for prolonged periods, especially with poor posture, isn't beneficial.
Hunching over a desk so the spine becomes a C shape rather than its natural S curve can lead to pressure on your spine and muscles.
Lack of activity, poor posture, sudden strains or heavy handling can all prompt back problems.
Current fashions for ultra-high heels and huge handbags can also be a factor for females, putting extra pressure on the spine and muscles.
