As baby boomers and their parents get older, so does the demand for better health care. And in many cases, the kids or the spouses will be doing the caring.
According to a report compiled in 2004 by the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP, 21% of American households have at least one caregiver. This statistic amounts to over 20 million households, which means there are over 20 million caregivers in the US.
The report also says the typical caregiver is a woman in her forties caring for someone over fifty, but CNN shows that adults even older than that are switching careers to care for the elderly. Personal experiences in caring for family or friends can fuel an individuals desire to continue to aid others in need and helps caregivers relate to their clients better.
