Legendary in the cinema world, Depp is most well known for his roles in films like ‘Edward Scissorhands’ (1990), ‘Sleepy Hollow’ (1999), ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ (2005) and of course, the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series.

  • He's A Guitarist Depp dabbled with music before acting. At age 12, his mother gave him a guitar as a gift and he began playing various garage bands. As a teenager, he was in a punk band called ‘The Kids’—they opened for big-name performers like Iggy Pop, Duran Duran and The B-52’s, among others.
  • First Movie Role Depp's first major movie role was in the 1984 horror film ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street’. He played Glen Lantz, the heroine's boyfriend and one of Freddy Krueger’s victims.
  • His Favorite Characters Critics have described Depp's character roles as “iconic loners.” As of now, Depp has said his favorite characters that he’s played thus far are Jack Sparrow in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series, Edward Scissorhands, and Ed Wood.
  • He's A Looker, Too He was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive twice—once in 2003 and once in 2009.
  • His Ink Depp has around 13 tattoos. One is a ribbon that says "Wino Forever”—it originally read “Winona Forever,” but he had it altered after his breakup with Winona Ryder. He has his daughter’s name, Lily-Rose, over his heart, his mother’s name, Betty Sue, on his left bicep, and a sparrow flying over water towards him with his son’s name, Jack, on his right bicep. In ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, the sparrow is actually pictured flying away from him.
