  • As a salute to the First Lady, who was born in Chicago on January 17th, 1964, we found ten fun and little-known facts about her. Happy 48th Birthday, Michelle!
  • She Had A Childhood Rivalry With Older Brother Craig Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, about 15 minutes from where little Barack lived, Michelle was always in competition with her older brother, Craig. He eventually got into Princeton and when she visited him there, the old rivalry was reborn. Rumor has is that she decided then and there to prove she was as smart as he was by getting admitted to Princeton, too. After all, she had skipped second grade just as he had! Some of her teachers told her that applying to Princeton wasn't a good idea, but she did it anyway – and got in! She graduated with honors in 1985 and went on to earn her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 1988.
  • She Got An Easy Bake Oven for Christmas Michelle's favorite childhood Christmas present was an Easy Bake Oven. That was true for a lot of little girls her age and in fact the venerable toy is still on the market today.
  • She Wore A Prom Dress That Was Red-Carpet Worthy Michelle's dress for her high school prom was a decidedly grown-up style for a teenager! Check out the thigh high slit on the leg and the décolletage. She does look truly lovely, though, doesn't she?
  • They Met at the Office After Harvard, Michelle landed a job as a trademark and copyright lawyer for the firm Sidley Austin in Chicago. Barack was an intern at the time, and that's where they met.
  • Jesse Jackson's Daughter Sang At Her Wedding One of Michelle's best childhood friends was Jesse Jackson’s daughter Santita. They remained pals as they grew up and Santita sang at Michele and Barack's wedding in 1992. We love this relaxed wedding day pose!
  • She Took Baby Sasha To A Job Interview Michelle has always been devoted to her girls, so when Sasha was four months old, Michelle brought her with her to a job interview. She has said that she wasn’t sure if she wanted the job or not since she had two children. She figured the baby would nix her chances of getting hired. However, she got the job anyway!
