Editrix Anna Wintour, who can make or break designers faster than normal people can get a cup of coffee at the drive-through, has always had a fearsome reputation. When the acerbic Brit took over “Vogue” magazine a while back, she was quickly christened “Nuclear Wintour.”
But as a guest on on the satirical “Colbert Report,” she demonstrated that she’s more than just an ice queen who regularly dispenses cutting remarks to her staff. Asked by host Stephen Colbert what it feels like to “destroy someone’s career” at will, Wintour gave an arch (though off-topic) response: “Don’t you think you could take a few more risks with the way you’re dressing?” The audience howled.
And when Colbert asked her whether fashion could be art, Wintour responded, “It can be just something you wear, like yourself [laughter from the audience] or it can be art.” Score!
But Wintour grew serious when asked about President Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage. “I am thrilled,” she said. “There were tears in the office of ‘Vogue’ yesterday.”
Funny, we thought that happened all the time.
