According to several sources including TMZ and the New York Daily News, 49-year-old actress Demi Moore inhaled nitrous oxide – also known as "laughing gas" and used in moderation for dental patients – before being rushed to the hospital on January 23rd. At the time of her collapse, her rep said she was suffering from "exhaustion." However, new reports say that she suffered seizures caused by "huffing" a dangerous amount of the street high dubbed "Whip-its" after the gas-filled canisters meant for making whipped cream.
As TMZ put it, a Whip-it "is not a common drug among people of Demi's age and social status. It's typically used by younger people who are looking for a cheap thrill." The nitrous oxide canisters are available for sale online and at some chain stores in the kitchen supply aisle. The New York Daily News article said that "balloons filled with the gas are often sold in the parking lots of concerts."
Demi was slated to play the role of Gloria Steinem in the upcoming movie "Lovelace" about porn star Linda Lovelace but she has reportedly dropped out in order to recuperate. Her publicist confirmed that she "has chosen to seek professional assistance." Photos of Demi since her recent split with 33-year-old Ashton Kutcher, her husband of six years, have shown her looking alarmingly thin. Also, she has had drug problems in the past. We hope the help she's getting now will make a difference for her. Get well, Demi!
