Shocking confessions by Jackie Kennedy Onassis in recordings kept secret until now include her revelation that she believed that Lyndon Johnson was behind the assassination of her husband on November 22, 1963. She also admits to an affair with the actor William Holden, saying the fling was in retaliation for JFK's dalliances with a White House intern and other women. The tapes were made a few months after JFK's death during an interview with historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr. but Jackie requested that they be held in a vault until 50 years after her own death. She was afraid that her stunning statements could target her family for revenge.
Now, only 17 years since Jackie's death, her daughter Caroline Kennedy has consented to release the tapes so that they can be aired on an ABC program. Sources say Caroline agreed to the release on the condition that ABC would cancel their $10 million series about the Kennedy family.
