  • Ed Begley Jr. Earth Day is a day to celebrate our planet’s natural environment. It’s also the perfect time to consider what more we can do as individuals to make Earth a better, greener place. Many celebrities already have the right idea. In honor of Earth Day, let’s look at 10 men in Hollywood who are dedicated to living green: Ed Begley Jr., 61, has been committed to living green for over forty years. He stars in his own reality TV show, Living With Ed, which chronicles his family life in his solar-powered home. (No kidding, the man powers his toaster with a stationary bike!) This super-green actor even has his own brand of environmentally friendly cleaners, Begley’s Best.
  • Matt Dillon The 47-year-old There’s Something About Mary star helped introduce the ‘Greenest City In America’ challenge, a part of Yahoo!’s ‘Be A Better Planet’ program. The program was created to inform Americans about global warming and urge them to take action.
  • Robert Redford The renowned actor and film producer has always been extremely committed to green living. Redford, 74, has been fighting for wilderness preservations and promoting solar energy since the 1970s. He served thirty years on the board of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and broadcasts numerous environmental programs on his Sundance TV channel.
  • Pierce Brosnan The 007 hero has served on the Environmental Media Association for years and was named ‘Best Dressed Environmentalist’ in 2004. Brosnan, 57, is best known for his involvement with marine life and wetland protection—he protested the U.S. Navy’s use of sonar, a process that can be harmful whales.
  • Ted Danson Ted Danson, 63, has been an environmental activist for decades. His interest in helping the environment was sparked at age twelve upon being introduced to a game called ‘billboarding’—with the help of a friend and a museum curator, they knocked down over 500 outdoor advertising signs and illegal birdhouses. In the 1980s, Danson became one of the founders of the American Oceans Campaigns —now called Oceana—on which he is still a board member. He’s donated over $500,00 to environmental causes over the years.
  • George Clooney George Clooney was the cover man on Vanity Fair’s first-ever green issue. Sure, Clooney, 49, chooses to drive an electric car—but his dedication to helping the environment doesn’t stop there. He helped to begin the Oil Launch campaign, geared to putting a stop to the U.S.’s strong dependence on oil.
  • Brad Pitt Brad Pitt is known for more than just his blockbuster movie roles and dashing good looks. Pitt, 47, narrated Design e2, a PBS TV series about building eco-friendly structures through architecture and design. In 2006, he founded the Make It Right Foundation—working alongside Global Green USA, the two organizations worked to build environmentally sustainable housing in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
  • Tom Hanks Along with making award-winning films, Tom Hanks, 54, is also a big environmentalist. He only drives electric cars, and in the past has driven a Toyota RAV4 EX, the first production AC Propulsion eBox and the EV1. He’s currently on the wait list to own an Aptera 2 Series, a low-energy, three-wheeled automobile due out later this year.
  • Will Ferrell Actor Will Ferrell put his funny- chops to good use when he appeared on TBS’s ‘Earth to America’ back in 2005—a comedy show committed to raising awareness of global warming. Since then, Ferrell, 43, has kept environmentally conscious by driving an electric car.
  • Edward Norton Norton, 41, is a big supporter of renewable energy projects. He helped to launch BP’s Solar Neighbors Program, an incentive to get solar panels onto low-income housing in LA. He also hosted an Emmy Award winning National Geographic special about the effects of today’s biggest environmental issues.
