The Diva of Domesticity is turning into the Diva of Dish. Yes, Martha Stewart has decided to add interviewing to baking, scrapbooking, chicken raising, sheep shearing and her legion of other ballyhooed skills. Martha, who has a new partnership with the Hallmark Channel, told reporters, My favorite interviewers are Larry King [and] Barbara Walters, both of whom are kind of retiring. Whos going to take their place as the serious, great interviewer? Im throwing my name in there, because I love to talk to people. A fact which might come as a surprise to some of Marthas former employees who often found her not exactly a people-lover.
Stewarts first effort as an interviewer will be on September 19th in a hour-long primetime special. She will interview designers Donna Karan, Diane Van Furstenberg, Tory Burch and J.Crews Jenna Lyons. That will be the first in the series of Martha Stewart Presents which are planned as once-a-month specials.
Steward said future specials could focus on the hottest, sexiest, young male movie stars--who they are, how do they live, how do they cope? She also wants to do specials on comedians and said she will work her way up to First Lady Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi.
Now Martha has always been known for her conviction that anything you can do she can do better. ThirdAge once saw her sitting on the dais at a large luncheon at New Yorks Waldorf-Astoria and adding condiments to the salad. She then told the audience that the hotels chef just did not know how to do right by the greens. Maybe she will be just as tough and critical as a questioner. Can you imagine her getting the big get, an interview with fellow convicted felon Bernie Madoff? Remember, Martha had some prison experience, too. And since Marthas support of Democratic candidates is well-known, can you just imagine her, glue gun in hand, questioning Sarah Palin. Bet that would make the ratings soar! .
