Women In Film Celebrates Women In Television

The 2011 Emmy weekend rolled into West Hollywood with a crash on Friday, September 16, as Women in Film threw their annual bash. That non-profit organization that is "dedicated to helping women achieve their highest potential within the global entertainment, communications and media industries" (according to their mission statement) always puts on great parties in Los Angeles, but this one, put on with Entertainment Weekly, was a doozie.

How about a nominee or two – or 20! It was a sea of television's best and brightest at Boa restaurant on Sunset Boulevard, as talented women (and a ton of men, too) of every age, shape and size air kissed and oohed over each other's outfits and shoes. "Downton Abbey" Lead Actress in a Miniseries nominee Elizabeth McGovern rolled in from London, looking absolutely adorable in a cobalt blue strapless number and sparkling diamond choker, but she was feeling it.

"I am so jet lagged right now, I'm not sure where I am," she joked.

Elisabeth Moss, she of "Mad Men" fame and a Lead Actress in a Drama nominee, knew exactly where she was – taking her third ride on the Emmy train. She's hoping that third time is a charm, as she's been nominated three years in a row, but hasn't won. "I'm just having fun!" Moss laughed, then shared some of her Emmy night secrets. "I already have my dress picked out. It was the first one I tried on! But I can't tell you any more; we have to keep it a secret until Sunday night. I will wear Lorraine Schwartz jewels, I can tell you that. Her stuff is amazing!"

So many nominees swirled in the crush it was hard to keep track. "Modern Family" beauty Sofia Vergara floated by, as did Alfre Woodard, Mary McDonnell, Julie Bowen, Margo Martindale, Kathy Griffin and Loretta Devine, who has already accepted her Guest Actress in a Drama Series trophy (given out last weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys). And the male nominees showed up, too, including handsome John Slattery of "Mad Men," Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson from "Modern Family," double nominee Idris Elba (for both "The Big C" and "Luther") and James Woods, whose nomination for "Too Big to Fail" came as something of a surprise to the 64-year-old veteran. "I took a couple of years off to take care of my mother," Woods revealed. "Then I come back to do an HBO movie, mostly to work with my buddy William Hurt, and I get an Emmy nomination! I love this business." Also in love with television and the EW/WIF party were famous faces including Sela Ward, Ralph Macchio, Minnie Driver, Jamie Pressly, David Arquette, Thomas Gibson, Kate Flannery, Hank Azaria, Sasha Alexander and "The Help" stars Octavia Spencer and Ahna O'Reilly, two women in film who may just find themselves in another awards swirl come Oscar time.
