You’re Not Getting Older, You’re Getting Blonder

  • Although being a blonde is (even today) often associated with giggly girls in their 20s, many women decide to go lighter in haircolor as they get older. And looking at these celebrities, that’s a smart thing to do. Whether they’re blonde or silver, highlighted or natural, these stars look so much better light!

    Christie Brinkley

She’s always had blonde hair, but the supermodel, 57, has taken on a bolder shade of blonde. It isn’t all natural, obviously, but it still looks fabulous.
  • Helen Mirren Now 66, Mirren looks amazing with a blonde-silver combination and a first-rate set of highlights. And the style is perfect – most women Mirren’s age look better with shorter hair.
  • Linda Evans She doesn’t have the Farrah-Fawcett-style wings she sported on “Dynasty,” but Evans, 68, is even more stunning with a silver-blonde look that’s chic and appropriate for her age.
  • Heather Locklear Very few people could pull off the sun-kissed California blonde look at age 50, but then, she’s Heather Locklear. It’ll be interesting to see how (or if) she changes haircolor as she gets older.
  • Emma Thompson Not exactly the vainest actress around (after all, she did play Nanny McPhee), Thompson, 52, is still style-conscious enough to have chosen blonde streaks that makes her fit right in to contemporary urban comedies like her upcoming “The Song Of Lunch.”
  • Sharon Stone Over the years, she’s kept it blond but worn it long, short, up, down and spiky. In just the past year or so, though, Stone, 53, went very light, with a straight, shoulder-length style that makes her look younger and sweeter.
  • Jessica Lange The Oscar-winning actress, 62, has done both blonde and brunette shades. These days she’s got a combination of the two. It’s not for everyone, but it works for Lange.
  • Meryl Streep Like Helen Mirren, Streep, 62, has gone for a combination of gray and blonde – except, of course, when she’s totally getting into character for a part.
  • Madonna The eternal chameleon, Madonna, 53, has changed her hair and even her body (from borderline-soft to sculpted) over the years. Now she’s settled – for a while, anyway – on a wavy, shoulder-length blonde style, with what looks like a few roots showing. (We’re sure this was done deliberately.)
  • Goldie Hawn The “Laugh-In” veteran, 65, hasn’t had to worry too much about her haircolor during the past few decades. It’s always been blonde, and it looks like it’s going to stay blond. And long (after an earlier dalliance with shorter locks.)
