Remember the Home Front?

While American fighting men were out battling for democracy in World War II, their families back home coped with the realities of the home front. For an intimate look at those times, read the letters written and received by Private Art.

This site is a labor of love by the Pranger family. It contains a collection of letters its patriarch, Army Pvt. Arthur Pranger, wrote to and received from his family and friends during his service with the 86th Chemical Mortar Battalion.

Wait for the separate window to load, then go exploring by clicking on the dog tags at the bottom of the screen. Meet the Pvt. Pranger and browse the Letter Archive. Read the stories behind the letters in Private Art Remembers, present day anecdotes from Pranger.

In the Soldier's Scrapbook, a key, an old photo and tattered letter are all that remain of a brief attachment to a British girl. Old buddies, youngsters learning about life a half-century ago, and you can leave notes in the guest book.
