Q:

My doctor says I need to lower my cholesterol levels and that the best way to start is by improving my diet. Diets don't work for me. How can I make changes that will stick?

A:

Keep a record for three days of everything you eat, including one weekend day. Make note of what you eat, when you eat, and how much you eat. Note how you're feeling emotionally in case you're stress eating. If you're honest with yourself and accurately record your habits, I promise it will be very eye opening.

You'll see patterns of the positive things you do each day and the patterns that could use some tweaking. Highlight all the great things you are eating and doing and pat yourself on the back. Way to go! Now, think about one or two areas where you could jump start your health and how you might do just that. By fixing just one small problem a week, you'll soon be well on your way to a better diet.
