Monday Morning, Damn

What am I being punished for? This should be my time to enjoy what I'm doing. But no, not me. I'm the exception.

I've devoted myself to my wife and kids--maybe too much. Was I supposed to be working late nights at the office? Coming in on weekends, maybe skipping a vacation or two just to get on the good side of the boss? Sure, that would have done a lot of good. Guys that I've been working for have either moved up or gone to other companies. But no, not me. I'm stuck here and Monday morning is coming around again.

The kids have turned out well. There's a new grandchild due in a couple of months and I couldn't be any more in love with Kay. But I think I'm making her suffer. I probably take it out on her sometimes. Lately, I've been having an extra drink at night. I've got it under control, but I'm not sleeping well and it's got to be rough on Kay.

I read about these guys switching careers at my age. But, I look at what they've done with their jobs and I'm no match for them. So, I grit my teeth and head into the office for another week...and another. I tell myself, it's just one week closer to retirement, if I don't drop dead first.

Are you trapped in a job you don't like because you think it's the only job you can do? If you could choose another job or career path, what would it be? If a new opportunity opened up for you, would you be ready to jump at it?
