Youthful complexions inevitably give way to maturity, which sometimes may seem unfair. However, Givenchy's creative director of beauty, Olivier Echaudemaison, says "it's a myth that older skins can't shine."
In fact, Echaudemaison has overseen development of seasonal palettes that shimmer. "Used in the right places," he says, "it lights up the face beautifully."
He has a few tips for using shimmer, starting with: "Keep it away from fine lines around the eyes. It works well on the eyelid, where a touch of gleaming shadow looks beautifully soft and intriguing."
He suggests just a touch of shimmer in the lips "can create an illusion of fullness" if you put a dab on the center of the bottom lip and rub the lips together. And for a major event, Echaudemaison says flecks on the eyebrow add a special sparkle, and shimmer also "works beautifully on the shoulders and decolletage."
