Take Years Off Your Looks

So you want to look younger, but you don't have the money for cosmetic surgery. Well, says beauty expert Bonnie Estridge, save your cash and try a few simple tricks to take years off your appearance.

When you use a conventional cover stick under your eyes to hide those occasional dark circles, it can actually make the problem worse, she says. You can brighten up tired eyes by dusting pale lilac or pale pink matte power under your eyes on top of your normal foundation, to "warm up the under-eye area, adding sparkle to the face."

Brown powder eye shadow is considered safe -- but Estridge says brown shades also are a good way to make faces look tired. "Try some of the new purples, plums, and lilacs, which will make you look more bright-eyed," she advises.

If you really cannot face anything but a neutral, she says, "try charcoal or navy instead, using a light touch when applying so they won't look too dark." And remember that shadow with blue undertones will make the whites of your eyes look even whiter, "so go for a dark blue/black mascara," she says.
