Fairly fast and efficient! It has picked up its work pace up in the past few months...give em a break if its a hot day folks! This is the place to go to get decent price buyback for your metals and so forth...if you are in Union City. The cool thing is that they will take your Ewaste no problem! It does its job!

ops! Instead of about $15, my wife and I received $38.05 on Saturday (this helped pay for the items we got at Target and our trip to the movies). Unless the machine wasn't calibrated correctly, I was given the wrong receipt (one of the workers was walking away with it, and another one called him back, took the receipt, and gave it to me). I tried to bring this up (I had a guilty conscience), but the cashier at the booth thought that I had expected more money, not less. She didn't even bat an eye when I told her exactly what I had brought in (the aluminum cans should have netted about $2, not $20). Well, I tried (a few months ago, I was handed a receipt that would have given me $60, but it was apparent who it belonged to, and I think I switched receipts with the man). +The Recycling Center is only closed on "Sunday and major holidays." +EWaste is recycled for free. Some accepted items: TV's (with the exception of Plasma TV's); computer monitors; Laptop computers; DVD players; VCR's; cell phones. Items not accepted include car batteries, microwaves, fax machines, copiers, and hazardous waste (somebody's cooking is coming to my mind). +Going here on a weekday is a leisurely experience (there may only be 3 or 4 employees around, but it's enough). +The prices have increased in recent years. Aluminum cans are now worth $1.57/lb., plastic bottles $.93/lb., and clear glass $.11/lb. The Center used to pay about $1.10/lb. for cans, and about $.80/lb. for plastic bottles (I think glass used to be worth $.05/lb.). +There's often an employee inside the booth at all times now (in the past, an employee would serve as the cashier after helping to unload items this was a slow process, and it probably wore out the employees too). I even saw two girls inside on Saturday (I think one dealt with the public while the other manned the register). Another plus is how quick and friendly the cashiers are (the nicest ones are female, which is why I smiled twice on Saturday). +It's easier now to get paid. You only have to print and sign your name on the receipt (afterwards, you're given a copy). In the past, you had to provide your address too (I think at one point in time customers were expected to be residents). +There's a nice garden a few yards from the booth (the booth itself is more colorful now there are even painted leaves at the top), and sometimes a piece of art made from recycling is on display. +This is probably the same as at other recycling centers, but there are two recycling areas (they're right next to each other). This enables customers to be served quickly (on busy days, though, it may take 510 minutes to get to the front). +The bulletin board outside the booth is full of useful information, and some handouts are always available at the booth itself (I see at least something I find interesting almost every time). +/Mixups like the ones I mentioned above don't occur that often, but it's troubling that they occur at all. It helps if you go to the Center with someone else. If you go alone, you're typically going to be handed a receipt after you've parked and walked over to the booth. It's nice that the employees are willing to walk over to you with your receipt, but I like to stand near the receipt machine while my wife parks. This keeps me from having to wait on someone (on busy days, this can cost you a place in line). Even more, it makes it a lot less likely that I'll be given the wrong receipt. +/Magazines and newspapers are also accepted (I don't believe you're given any money for either, though). +/The Center is busy on Saturdays, especially from 121 (there's often a line of cars out into the street, and exiting the Center can be really tricky sometimes). On the plus side, there are usually about 12 employees around, and they work pretty quickly. +/The employees are often gung ho, especially on Saturdays. I don't mind when bags are pulled from the back seat and trunk (it's nice that I don't have to hand the employees everything), but at least let me open the doors first (I'm usually able to). A glass bottle also shattered one time (the bag was pulled out too aggressively). An item here and there may also be thrown away or left on the ground because of how fast the employees often work. The website is solid (http://www.triced.org/), but the current price list can't be viewed (an error message appears). Employees come and go, and some are better than others. As a result, it's hard to know what to expect. Sometimes items are processed very quickly and in a wellorganized way. On other days, the employees are a little slow and lazy. In general, the level of service is good, but it would be nice if there was more consistency. My wife and I go here once every 6 weeks. It feels good to do your part and be paid for it.
