If "Alterra Clare Bridge" is now the "Brookdale Senior Living" facility, and I hope it is, then things have certainly changed since the last review was submitted back in 2006. Maybe they are still a "Great Alzheimer's Care Provider", but the caregiver care is horrible! From what I've gathered from the caregivers I've spoken with working there, none are fully employed, "not their choice", working less than 40 hours per week with an hourly wage that hovers around $8.85. That's 0.78 cents above the Washington State minimum wage of $8.07. With these meager wages they pay for transportation, child care, utilities, food, etcetera. It goes without saying that no health care benefits are provided for these caregivers who in effect are providing a part of the health care required by the facilities' residents'. And forget about retirement plans, unless you count social security. Some of the caregivers, those motivated to do so, even purchase sanitary wipes out of pocket to aid in keeping the residents' clean. What motivates them other the fear of living on the street with no job, I have no idea. Can employees treated in this manner provide "World Class Care" for our mothers and fathers when it's most needed? Maybe! How motivated would you be?

I used to work here about 5 years ago as a caregiver. After seeing other Alzheimer's facilities in the area I can tell you from inside experience that this is by far the nicest one. The staff is welltrained and very caring and the facilities are secondtonone. This place is not cheap, but why compromise when it's your mother or father who's living here? Check them out first and compare them to the nicest facilities in the area.
