A) Two words...BED BUGS, BED BUGS, BED BUGS!!! This place is infested with them. If you do not have them when you move in, you will most certainly have them soon after. At that point, all of your furniture must be destroyed and disposed of. All of your clothing and linens must be bagged and laundered in hot, hot water. This is all done at the expense of the resident and their family. The facility does not claim any responsibility, financially or otherwise. B) If that isn’t enough, there is the matter of the odor that overpowers the entire facility. Some residents wander aimlessly clearly littered in their own waste of urine and feces. They also smell of filth, as though they have not bathed in weeks, and their clothes not laundered either. To walk into some of the rooms is like being hit with a wall of human waste and filth. C) Then there are residents who are alcoholics, some violent. They walk around using vulgar language and have been known to physically threaten other residents and staff. One resident threw a heavy wooden chair at another elderly resident. D) The food leaves A LOT to be desired. Elena is a wonderful chef. But one would never know it. The food budget is so low, not nearly enough to feed all residents. The food is sub-standard, much like I would imagine prison food would be. E) This individual has overheard the management (including the inept Administrator) make ruthless “jokes” about the residents and their families, including their dress, make-up, smells, and adult relations that staff have walked in on and witnessed. F) This is a Medicaid facility, and all they care about is bodies in the rooms. A high census saves the carcass of the Administrator, who is nothing more than a slum-lord. If you love your family member, DO NOT force them to live in this sub-standard "assisted living".

This place is a joke. They promise many things and very rarely do what they say. The buildings have bedbugs and other bugs. They are always short staffed. The night staff sleeps instead of working. They talk about personal information of residents in the general public without concern of breaking privacy laws. The resident assistants and medication people are mean and don't do their job. They have left people sitting without help for hours. The head management don't care about their residents or staff. They give lip service to cover their asses but nothing every changes. The buildings are dirty and need many maintenance repairs. The security at night is scary. Many times their are people present that should not be in the buildings after visiting hours. There are street drugs being sold and used by residents. There are many parties that have loud music going all night long. This place is not the place for good people that want to have their needs met. Look for other assisted living facilities.

At first visit Canterbury Inn was a beautiful, well run facility with decent scores by Medicare. But the proof is really in how they treated my father after his arrival. I want to warn anyone thinking of putting their loved one here. They are a Medicaid approved facility and thus take "any warm Medicaid approved" body they can regardless whether they can care for them or not. My father had a complete assessment by their staff, they said they could care for his needs and he lasted three days before we had an ambulance remove him out due to lack of care. I understand needed to keep a facility full. But how dare they accept my father, promise to care for him and not deliver on their promises. Their sales lady is brillant and very personable. She knows how to fill rooms. Don't be fooled. Once you leave your loved on alone , they are on their own. So if you have a loved one who needs a pretty high level of care and is not selfsufficient, DO NOT put them here. Take them ...? So if you have a loved one who needs a pretty high level of care and is not selfsufficient, DO NOT put them here. Take them to a real nursing home where they are trained staff to assure their safety and care. We all want to provide a safe and independent lifestyle for our seniors but carefully look and assess their needs and the care the home provides. This is for "highly functional, low care" seniors ONLY. Even one of the staff members WARNED me about the high turnover and theft that was part of this facilities issues. She even said "don't trust what they tell you he will receive from a services standpoint". Hope this is helpful in your decision making process.
