Few years ago when I was searching for a place that provides care for those suffering with Forgetfulness (Dementia Alzheimer's), I visited Victorian Manor and was told by the Adminstrator Assistant that they handle all stages of Alzheimer's and all types of behavioral systems (even the most difficult due to this illness). Lesson leaned, they have no experience in this field, for example the Administrators are the ones that attend Alzheimer's seminars, but the ones that should be taking extensive training are the staff who were caring for those elderly with Forgetfullness (DementiaAlzheimer's). For example, when changing or showering they will have more than two Caregiver's forcing a resident who is terminally ill to shower. When it'a all right to give them a sponge bath (recommended by Alzheimer's Association); Another example, is changing a Residents clothes who has Alzheimer's they will yank the clothes off, instead of gently removing the clothes while the Resident is calling out for help. One Resident who was in a wheelchair was bathing and the Caregiver tried to put her back in the wheelchair and she fell twice on the floor and the Caregiver laughed and luckily there was another Caregiver close by to help. The commodes are sometime not cleaned, they are either filled to the top or half full, plus the seat can be dirty as well. The pitcher of water is sometimes not cleaned and changed for new water in the rooms. After 7pm, the floors are empty, if someone where to fall or need help, there is not one Caregiver on the floor. The hallways and rooms at times tend to smell of urnine. The sofas on the 2nd floor are old and ladies have accidently went to the bathroom and no one has cleaned or changed the chairs. The food for dinner consist at times of a sandwicha or hotdogs...sometimes it maybe a good meal but the weekends are not nurtitional. The dishes, untensils, cups are sometime not clean. The Administrators say they care for all their Residents like they were their own babies. Well they have been sending out eviction notices left and right to all the elderly they can not manage with Alzheimers. So in reality they abandon their babies. Plus they are not attentive to your loved ones and they have no care plan for the elderly who tend to fall, they leave them alone to wander and fall and this can be fatal. If you are looking for a place which has the support, care, love, training, and treates your loved one with respect and dignity Victorian Manor is not for your love one. I would keep searching...Also the Administrators and Staff and some Caregivers raise their voices at the residents which is very unprofessional to those that are very ill. Also, they tend to raise their voice to family members and are not compassionate to the famlies who are suffereing and need support. I have seen the Administrative Assistant and the Receptionist laugh behind an Resident's back and at times talk down to the families members. One last example, was a time when a Resident who had Alzheimer's and ost her speach, would wander into different rooms. The Administrator told her son that either they restrain his mother in a wheelchair or she would be evicted. When he told me this I was shocked and gave him legal advice of who he could speak to right away, but he was afraid to do this. He told me that they don't even exercise his Mom to walk every hour or 2..then one day her wheelchair fell and the Adminstrator had his Mom transfered to a convalesent home, where she died three months later. PLEASE be very careful when visiting Victorian Manor they will be so very sweet and professional when you meet them and the first few months, after that the true colors will appear. My final advice is to keep searching for the best place you can find that will offer quality of life, care, support, attentive, respectful, and compassion for your loved one.

I am not sure how cheaper they charge for their poor service, but I am a little more than disappointed to see a senior care business being run in a less standard meal service than that of a prison. I origionated from a third world country so I am used to this "meal for survival" kind cheap life style, and rude customer service. the residents drink powdered orange juice (nothing fresh) and even tap water filled in a branded water bottles. whatever is leftover from meal, including the powdered juice leftover, goes back to kitchen to be served the next day or after. leftover food rarely goes to garbage. residents wear their dirty cloths whenever but oh, when a family member comes to visit them, he will be told that they are on meal so that he waits till they take shower and change their clean clothes. they have ok Chinese cook, but the residents know and prefer not to eat it if the food served is not fresh.
