Reviews:

I have taken the stance that Sunrise Senior Living is one of the nastiest assisted care facilities in the business, and the susceptible residents we love should know the truth about them. If you read through the Internet, you will find many horror stories about Sunrise Senior Living. You may have to type in Sunrise Senior Living, or Sunrise Assisted Living, or just type in the home you are looking into, such as Sunrise of Granite Run, or Sunrise of Paoli. This company is good at hiding their woes. First, let me start by saying, I am hoping the recent announcement by Sunrise that they may be filing bankruptcy comes true, and they are forced to close their doors. There are just so many terrible stories about this place like abuse, harassment, neglect, and even deaths. A lot of them have been covered up, or hidden, because they just don’t want the public to know about them. I think its about time Sunrise shut its doors for good and let the elderly find better places to go and see what’s really out there for them. I can name ten newer places with better things right off the top of my head. Sunrise offers weekly housekeeping. What they don’t tell you is that one housekeeper is usually the only one doing every room in the place and they have time limits for each room. Sunrise offers exercises. What they don’t tell you is that the Activities Coordinator is responsible for driving the van, setting up other things, and doing this in AL and REM. Which breaks down to one hand exercise about 45 minutes a week. Sunrise offers a 24hour staff. What they don’t tell you is that the overnight staff is usually asleep or watching DVD’s and God help the person that disturbs them. Sunrise offers smoke detectors in every room. What they don’t tell you is that if your elderly parents are hard of hearing, they won’t hear the alarm and will probably die in the fire because they don’t offer visual alarms like most other places. Sunrise offers individually controlled heating and a/c. What they don’t tell you is that the systems are down 50% of the time. Sunrise offers a daily check in system. What they don’t tell you is that the response time is supposed to be 3 minutes when your loved one rings a bell. Check for yourself. Ask to see a printout of the latest Ariel system. It’s more like a 24minute response time. Paul and Teresa Klaassen stepped down as the chairman and CEO of the company right before their bankruptcy woes came into play. What they don’t tell you is that this seems like Insider Trading, which in my book is illegal.

I agree that Sunrise of Granite Run should be avoided. I think it may be all the Sunrise Senior Livings thought that are a disgrace. The writer above is correct about the urine smell. When you walk in the building, or go into a room, which by the way are very small, you get a nose full of urine. Ive also noticed that the workers all seem to go on break at one time, and lunch together, leaving the family member to fend for themselves. The place is pretty dirty if you ask me, and the activities they have for these seniors are very slim to none. I checked out many other assisted living homes and places for memory loss, and I advise you to do the same.
