Psychiatry Information:Psychiatry focuses on the study and treatment of mental disorders, including affective, behavioral, cognitive, and perceptual disorders. Psychiatric assessment usually begins with a mental status exam and a compilation and review of a case history. Further tests and physical exams can be conducted, including using neuroimaging and other neurophysiological techniques.
Psychiatrists can diagnose and treat a very wide array of disorders. Sub-specialties of psychiatry include addiction psychiatry, biological psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, community psychiatry, cross-cultural psychiatry, eating disorders, emergency psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, global mental health, liaison psychiatry, military psychiatry, neuropsychiatry, and social psychiatry.
