Gastroenterology Information:Gastroenterology is the study of the digestive system and its disorders. The diseases in gastroenterology affect the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus. Gastroenterologists must go through extensive training: eight years of pre-med and medical school, yearlong internship, three years of an internal medicine residency, and then two to three years of a gastroenterology fellowship.
An important sub-specialty is hepatology, the study of the, liver, pancreas, and biliary tree.
