Maternal & Fetal Medicine Information:

Maternal-Fetal medicine is a division of obstetrics that concentrates on managing high risk pregnancies, both medically and surgically. This includes monitoring and treatment through ultrasound, chorionic villus sampling, genetic amniocentesis, and fetal surgery or treatment. Those that practice in maternal-fetal medicine, which is considered a sub-specialty of obstetrics and gynecology, are called perinatologists.

Perinatologists take care of pregnant women with certain medical problems and histories, such as heart or kidney disease, diabetes, or hypertension, and women who are at risk for pregnancy complications, such as preterm labor, pre-eclampsia, or twin or triplet pregnancy.
