A nurse midwife is an Advanced Practice Nurse who has specialized education and training in both Nursing and Midwifery. CNM's function as primary healthcare providers for women and most often provide medical care for relatively healthy women, whose birth is considered uncomplicated and not "high risk".

One should see a nurse midwife if they would like to have their expected child to be born at home. They also help deliver children in hospitals and birthing centers. Nurse midwives take care of women who are both pregnant and have delivered their child.
