Wrist Fracture
A wrist fracture is a break in one or more of the bones in the wrist. The wrist is made up of the two bones in the forearm (radius and ulna) and eight carpal bones. This fact sheet will focus on fractures of the carpal bones of the wrist. Wrist fractures of the radius, often called Colles' Fracture, can be found on a separate sheet.

Stress Fracture
A stress fracture is a tiny crack in the bone. Most stress fractures occur in the lower leg and foot. They can also occur in the hip and other areas. Most stress fractures can heal spontaneously. However, some may lead to complete fractures, or may require surgery.

Sprain
A sprain is an injury that damages a ligament. A ligament is a firm, fibrous band of tissue. It connects two bones across a joint. There are ligaments crossing all of the joints in the body. Grade 1 and 2 sprains damage only the internal structure of a ligament. The ligament remains intact. Grade 1 is less severe than grade 2. Grade 3 sprains result in complete tears of the involved ligament. Grade 3 sprains are sometimes called torn or ruptured ligaments.

Shinbone Fracture
A shinbone fracture is a break in the tibia (shinbone). The lower leg has two bones that connect the knee to the ankle: the tibia and the fibula. The tibia is the larger of the two bones and runs on the inside of the lower leg. The fibula is much smaller and runs along the outside of the lower leg.

Rib Fracture
A rib fracture is a break in a rib bone. Bruised muscles and ligaments often happen with a rib fracture. More seriously, the lungs and other organs can be injured. More than one rib fracture after a Trauma can indicate serious internal injury.

Pelvic Fracture
A pelvic fracture is defined as one or more breaks (fractures) of the bones comprising the pelvis. This is a serious condition that requires immediate care from your doctor.

Sacral Stress Fracture
A sacral stress fracture is a small break in the sacrum. The sacrum is a large triangular bone. It is the base of the spine and connects to the pelvis. Spondylolysis fracture specifically affects the back thinner side of the bone.

Skull and Facial Fracture
Skull and facial fractures are broken bones of the head and face.

Mutilating Hand Injuries
A mutilating hand injury is severe damage to the hand. The injury may include damage to bones, tendons, soft tissues, nerves, and skin. It is caused by a Trauma. It can become a life-threatening condition.

Patella Fracture
This injury happens when there is a break in the patella. The patella is a large, movable bone at the front of the knee.
