Some of the more popular sites have as many as 20 million members. But with numbers as high as these, it’s still not a guarantee you’ll find the “one” for you. Focus on the Positive
Going online to search for love can be a lot easier than, say, meeting in a bar or even a community dance. You’re able to pick and choose in the comfort and security of your own home. You are in control of who you are in communication with at all times. And you will be the one determining when it’s the right time to meet that someone. All those circumstances can combine to make you feel more confident and in charge. It’s not an awkward ordeal! -
Be Mindful of the Negative
Although a person may sound amazing online, you won’t know for sure until you meet him or her online. Be sure to meet in a public place. Don’t rely on the other person for transportation, either. And there’s no need yet to reveal your exact address or the location of your office. All this might seem paranoid, but it’s not. Better to be safe than sorry. -
Watch Out for Scammers
There are tons of fakers trolling the online dating sites, preying on the lonely and vulnerable for their money, sometimes costing the victim thousands of dollars. (They may even impersonate someone whom they are not. They can do this by stealing the information of other people, including their pictures.) Since most scammers are charming, at least at first, they’ll work on you to slowly win you over even before you’re supposed to meet. Then they’ll ask you money to help them get out of some catastrophic event. Once they get your cash, they’re gone. -
Don’t be Overwhelmed
There are a lot of reasons to be cautious about online dating. Don’t let that stop you, though. There’s a site for every person, whether you want a long-term relationship or a casual hookup. Go slow, be cautious, and enjoy yourself! If you do it right, you’ll have the time of your life.
