Are You Depressed?
Everyone goes through periods of feeling down. But at what point does a case of "the blues" turn into clinical depression? If you haven't been feeling like yourself, you shouldn't assume that your feelings will pass by themselves. Depression generally responds very well to treatment, but you have to seek it out. That means seeing a doctor or another mental health professional.
Take this quiz to determine whether you should speak to a doctor about depression.
How long have you been feeling depressed?
In general, symptoms have to last for two weeks or longer for a person to be diagnosed with major depression. If your feelings have lasted for over two weeks, you should see a doctor because you may not feel better without treatment.
Are you suddenly having trouble enjoying things you used to take pleasure in?
The sudden inability to enjoy the things that you used to can be a sign of depression. If you've spent more than a couple weeks "going through the motions," even when doing things you used to love, it could be time to see a doctor.

Sudden weight loss or weight gain can be a sign of depression.
