Question
Can I use the A1C test if I don't have diabetes?
I don't have diabetes but I have some symptoms that cause diabetes (night sweating, frequent urination, overweight, constant hunger). I made an appointment with a doctor but its a month away and I am very paranoid. Can I use the A1C test in the meanwhile to see if I have diabetes?

Why worry about it!! It won't go away no matter what the home test says. But it won't hurt you if you insist other than you will be paying twice for the HbA1c testing. I consider it a waste of money. You can begin now by eating low carb food plan. Most of the top Endocrinologists recommend the South Beach Living phase 2 food plan. ("DIET" is a very very dirty 4-letter word which should be washed out of the mouth of anyone uttering it, as it denotes a short period of semi starvation and deprivation) And you can double any exercise routine you like. I like walking for an hour as fast as I can every day.and you can read this site while waiting for your doctor appointment:http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes

Sure. The result should be under 6. No harm done in having the test done and it will give you peace of mind.

What is Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is when the body does not make enough insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body convert food into energy. Without insulin, glucose (sugar) from the food you eat cannot enter cells. So glucose builds up in the blood. Your body tissue becomes starved for energy.
Type 1 diabetes usually begins in children and young adults. Over the long-term, if type 1 diabetes is not adequately treated, high blood sugar levels can damage the blood vessels, heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and other tissues or organs.
