If your blood level is 7.2 A1C does that mean you're a diabetic?
With the blood level of 7.2 A1C does that mean you're a diabetic? Or does being a diabetic have to do with someone who has had high sugar levels over a long period of time?

An A1c of 7.2 means that you are diabetic. The other answer is incorrect. An A1c of 6 is not normal. It indicates pre-diabetes. Pre-diabetes is an A1c between 5.7 and 6.4.A Hemoglobin A1c test is a measure of how high your blood sugar has been on average over the past few months. It is not a measure of how high your blood sugar is at the moment you take the test.An A1c of 7.2 means that your blood sugar has been elevated for a while, but not terribly elevated. You are diabetic. At this level, you can probably be treated with oral medications and you probably won't need insulin injections. Please see your doctor. Elevated blood sugar damages your body. Don't wait until you start to go blind to control your diabetes.
Everyone's blood glucose levels will spike after certain foods. A diabetic would have raised blood sugars over a long period if left untreated. The only way to really tell is to have a simple blood test.

What is Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is when the body does not make enough insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body convert food into energy. Without insulin, glucose (sugar) from the food you eat cannot enter cells. So glucose builds up in the blood. Your body tissue becomes starved for energy.

Type 1 diabetes usually begins in children and young adults. Over the long-term, if type 1 diabetes is not adequately treated, high blood sugar levels can damage the blood vessels, heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and other tissues or organs.
