Many of the Type 2 Diabetes drugs have side effects you have to watch out for, such as weight gain, nausea, kideney failure, etc. Medications are usually divided into 3 categories: medications that increase insulin production, medications that improve the effectiveness of insulin and medications that affect food absorption. Some of the Type 2 diabetes drugs are: Acarbose, Miglitol, Pioglitazone, Exenatide, Repaglinide, Saxagliptin and Glimepiride.

Please note to anyone seeking info on diabetes...Seek professional help!!! diabetes is a VERY personal and individual disease...what works for someone else might not be the right thing for you...and don't be discouraged...sometimes it takes a few tries with different meds to find the one that will help you!!!

I've been on Gipizide and metformin for 5 years I was recently put on insulin also. I was on HCTZ for high Blood pressure but that was recently changed, HCTZ is a diuretic , But it is found that in some people it can actually raise the Blood Sugar Level so my Dr changed me to lysinopril which protects the kidneys also and less likely to raise blood sugar

There are no "best" drugs for Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 is general inclusive term for all adult onset diabetes. There are several different kinds of Type 2. I have insulin resistent diabetes which means my pancreas produces insulin but my body resists the absorbsion of insulin. Therefore, I take three different types of insulin injections to force my body to use the insulin. So, what is "best" for one person may not be totally the wrong treatment for another person. Get a doctor that you have faith in and follow the instructions they tailor just for you.

iv'e had diabetes for the last 5 years metformin did not agree with me our my stomach. but iv'e had good results with glipazide. i also have major edema. and take 2 diruretics lasix and bumetadine , and iv'e been hospitalized 4 times with renal failure. so be careful to monitor your kidneys and see a nepheroulogist regularly.

What is Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is when the body does not make enough insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body convert food into energy. Without insulin, glucose (sugar) from the food you eat cannot enter cells. So glucose builds up in the blood. Your body tissue becomes starved for energy.

Type 1 diabetes usually begins in children and young adults. Over the long-term, if type 1 diabetes is not adequately treated, high blood sugar levels can damage the blood vessels, heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and other tissues or organs.
