DWTS: Katherine's Back Spasm

A sudden and very painful muscle spasm felled Welsh classical singer Katherine Jenkins as she was dancing her second routine of the evening during Monday's DWTS competition. Her partner, Mark Ballas cradled her and whispered, "I've got you!" Then host Tom Bergeron rushed onto the dance floor and assured the audience they'd get medical help for the injured star.

Sure enough, later in the evening Katherine tweeted: "Thank you for all your concerned tweets... I'm with the Doctor, he says it was a reflectorical spasm in my lower back."

According to easebackpains.com, a back spasm "can occur at anytime, without warning . . . The lower back area is usually the area that goes into spasm, sometimes as the result of a sudden movement like bending or twisting." That was exactly what Katherine was doing in a somewhat bizarre mixture of a belly dance and a salsa!

The mishap cost Katherine some points. She has the strongest technique of all four remaining contestants, if not the most sincere stage presence, but she ended at the bottom of the leaderboard with a score of 27 out of 30 for that dance and a total for the evening of 56 out of 60. At the top were E! host Maria Menounos and her partner Derek Hough with a whopping 59 out of 60, followed closely by Latin hunk William Levy and Cheryl Burke with 58 out of 60 and Green Bay Packer Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd with 57 out of 60. Tonight the semifinals continue as the results show reveals which one of the "final four" gets sent home. Will Katherine, after being the top contender at the beginning of the season, be this week's loser as result of her unfortunate accident? Maybe the audience sympathy vote will save her -- but maybe not!
