how to start running?

how to start running?

I am 75 and haven't run in about 30 years so I want to start.I started a strenght program      (8 machines,24,000 lbs.)and a cardio(tread mill and in place bicycle,30min each,600 calories for both) program.I have started alternating walking a lap then jogging a lap.I was wondering if this seems like a workable program to further enhance my exercise program.
