Burn Calories Without Working Out!

How To Burn Calories Without Working Out

If  you feel like you’re generally too busy to fit in a trip to the gym, you’re not alone.  While it’s certainly a good idea to try to fit regular exercise into your schedule, sometimes you just can’t. If this is the case with you, you’ll be happy to discover that there are little things you can do that will help you stay active and burn calories:

Pace While You’re On The Phone. If you love to catch up with friends and family on the phone, take the opportunity to get some light walking in at the same time. If it’s nice enough out, take a walk around the neighborhood while you chat. If you want to stay at home, pace around the house. After spending a half-hour doing this, you will burn an extra 100 calories. No gym sweat required!

Park Far Away. Parking a block or two away from where you’re going. We’re so used to trying to find the best parking spot we can, but it doesn’t hurt to get the blood flowing a little bit more by walking a few extra steps. If you can get into the habit of parking far away on purpose, you’ll start to do it naturally.

Stand Up. Most people spend too much time sitting each day, and sitting can actually be hazardous to your health, increasing the likelihood that you will experience tension and muscle fatigue. So stand whenever possible: while you’re waiting for a friend at the movie theater, while you’re waiting for your doctor’s appointment, or even in the airport while waiting for a flight.

Drink Ice-Cold Water. You have to stay hydrated anyway, so why not burn more calories while you’re at it? By drinking ice-cold water, your body will have to work harder to convert the water to body temperature. This extra work causes you to burn more calories than you would if the water was room temperature. Remember to drink at least 8 glasses a day – and more when you exercise! Take The Stairs. Whenever you have the choice between an elevator or stairs, take the stairs. Even if this only happens sporadically, it can make a big difference in your cardiovascular health. If you climb stairs to the 2nd floor of a building just 5 times per day, you will end up burning an extra 50 calories per day. That adds up! Hit The Kitchen. While you’re cooking, you can burn about 150 calories per hour. Think about it: preparing food involves quite a bit of standing, moving, bending, and lifting. Just make sure not to do too much tasting! Dance. Put on your favorite song, and turn the volume up.  And dance like mad! If you dance to three songs throughout the day, you will not only get some added exercise – you will also increase your energy level. This doesn’t have to be high-impact cardio dancing. You can vary the intensity levels and still get the benefit. If you need yet another reason to try this, know that it can also serve as an endorphin booster, making you feel happier.
