Study: America's Fattest Cities

America's 50 most-populated cities just got graded on two weighty issues: fatness and fitness.

The biggest and beefiest? Philadelphia, Kansas City and Houston, says a ranking by Men's Fitness magazine. And the leanest? San Diego, Minneapolis and Seattle.

Author Keith Gibbons reviewed America's 50 most populated cities and graded them in 14 categories. Personal indicators, of course, played a big role: percentage of adults who exercise and are obese, alcohol consumption per capita, smoking and lung cancer deaths.

The magazine also looked at geographical indicators, such as commute time, acres of accessible recreational land and waterways, and climate data.

Other factors included total fast-food restaurants, the number of gyms and sporting goods stores, access to health care, and total TV viewing.
