Take a 'Spin' to Shape Up

Spinning your wheels can mean you're getting somewhere. Spinning as an indoor group bike ride set to music provides a low-impact aerobic workout, guided by an instructor who leads you over a simulated terrain.

Lasting about 45 minutes, a spinning class combines resistance training with a cardiovascular workout. Experts say the combination of strength and aerobic conditioning will burn fat faster than anything else.

The stationary bikes have fixed gears, toe clips and adjustable seats. They also have Polar Heart Rate Monitors to track your heart rate and a resistance knob, which allows riders of different abilities to work out together.

You should wear padded bike shorts to keep from getting saddle sore. But you can leave the helmet at home.
